How do I set up dial-up access if I have Windows ME, Windows 98 and Windows 2000?

Windows ME, Windows 98 and Windows 2000 using Internet Explorer 5.0

Please be aware that there are many different versions of operating systems out there. The following instructions are designed as a guide, and may not be exactly as they appear on your computer.

  • To find out if you are using Internet Explorer 5.0
    • Open Internet Explorer.
    • Click the Help menu, and then click About Internet Explorer
    • Next to Version, the first number that appears (example: 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9) indicates the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer.
  • Double click on the Internet Options icon in the Control Panel. This will open the Internet Properties window. Click on the Connection tab.
  • Click on the "Setup..." button to open the Internet Connection Wizard to begin setting your computer up.
  • Select the third option, "I want to set up my internet connection manually...". Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • On the next screen, select the first option, "I connect through a phone line and modem".Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • The next step is to create a dial-up connection to Worldline
    • Below "Telephone number" enter your full 10 digit local dial-up number in the telephone number field, no dashes, no spaces.
    • Be sure to remove the tick from the box next to Dial using the area code and country code.
    • Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • Your username and password were given to you by Worldline when you arranged your connection. Enter your full username and password in the proper fields.
NOTE: Your user name must be entered using small caps only. Also, you need to enter your password into the Password box. Note that for security reasons your password is displayed as a series of *'s on the screen.

  • Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • In the Connection Name field type in the name: Worldline. Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • The next step in the setup process is setting up an e-mail account
    • Select the option Yes
    • Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • Type in your real name in the Display name box, for example: Joe Bloggs. Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • Enter your email address in the Email address field. Your e-mail address is your username followed by "@worldline.ca".For example: joe@worldline.ca. Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • Make sure that the first box on the screen contains POP3. In the Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server box, type in: pop.worldline.ca
    • Similarly, in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, type in: smtp.worldline.ca
    • Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • Enter your username in the Account name field. Also, you need to enter your password into the Password box. Click on the "Next" button to continue.
  • Click on the "Finish" button to save the Internet Connection Wizard settings. You have successfully created a Worldline dial-up connection and an e-mail account.
Create a shortcut on your desktop:
  • Open "My Computer"
  • Open "Control Panel"
  • Open "Dial-up Networking" right click "Worldline" and select "create shortcut" click "Yes" to the pop-up window
Now you can open the shortcut on the desktop and press "connect". Once connected, simply open Internet Explorer to use the Internet.
