It&#8217;s all in the antenna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ookla<\/strong>\u00a0provides\u00a0a great service with their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.speedtest.net\/\"><strong>Speedtest<\/strong><\/a>. A free and easy to use web or mobile app, it allows people to check out their WiFi speeds quickly and accurately. Yet that speed test isn&#8217;t telling the entire story. Take this test for example. I was at home this afternoon and I thought I&#8217;d check out my data speed using my desktop computer. I have an iMac connected to the Internet via WiFi and have an Apple Airport Extreme router (Mac fan boy, what can I say?) connected to my Worldline cable modem. I have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldline.ca\/services\/high-speed-internet\/cable\"><strong>Worldline&#8217;s\u00a060\/10 Mbps Unlimited Cable Internet<\/strong> <\/a>service and here&#8217;s the results from my desktop (with bonus Worldline advertisement goodness): <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2561\" src=\"http:\/\/www.worldline.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Screen-Shot-2015-02-27-at-1.46.34-PM.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-02-27 at 1.46.34 PM\" width=\"904\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldline.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Screen-Shot-2015-02-27-at-1.46.34-PM.png 904w, https:\/\/www.worldline.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Screen-Shot-2015-02-27-at-1.46.34-PM-300x117.png 300w, https:\/\/www.worldline.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Screen-Shot-2015-02-27-at-1.46.34-PM-500x195.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 904px) 100vw, 904px\" \/>57 down and 9 up. Pretty awesome for wireless really. Just out of curiosity (actually not, more on this in a bit), I tested my wireless speed on my iPhone 6 Plus, making sure I was the same distance from the router and the results were, well, surprising: <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2563\" src=\"http:\/\/www.worldline.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_35941.png\" alt=\"IMG_3594\" width=\"300\" height=\"533\" \/>Ouch. 23 down and 10 up. Same WiFi, same router, even the same manufacturer, but the difference? Even with the iPhone 6 Plus being the latest and greatest (and biggest) mobile from\u00a0Apple, it was only getting half the speed as my iMac. The reason I did this test was we see\u00a0these same Ookla screen captures\u00a0from our customers posted on our Facebook page\u00a0complaining about their wireless speeds. Of course we immediately check out to see if there is anything up with their service, but more often than not, the issue is with their devices, not with us.
