We love you. We really,\u00a0really love you!<\/p><\/div>\n

It’s not too often when you get to say, “gee, I love my government,” but today you can, at least in relation to your data costs.<\/p>\n

If you are a Worldline Unlimited\u00a0High-Speed\u00a0Internet<\/a> customer that is.<\/p>\n

For folks signed up to some other Internet Service Providers… well, not so much.<\/span><\/p>\n

What makes us different from many other ISP’s is this; we are\u00a0exclusively\u00a0using something called a “Digital Subscriber Line” or DSL to provide Internet service to our customers.<\/p>\n

And yesterday, Canada’s telecommunications watchdog ruled that our DSL customers have been paying way<\/em> too much for their Internet, (which is something we’ve been saying for years<\/a>\u00a0by the way).<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission announced Thursday it has established a standard billing model<\/a>\u00a0to set new limits on how much the telecom behemoths can charge independent Internet providers, (that’s us), who need to access their infrastructure.<\/p>\n

That means some independent Internet providers could see \u201csignificant reductions\u201d in the wholesale rates they pay to the dominant players like Bell and Telus, whose DSL networks the smaller ISPs use. <\/span><\/p>\n

Again, that’s us, although we ain’t that small; 300,000 people use our services after all.\u00a0<\/span>One of the key words in there is “some,” because the CRTC also ruled that wholesale rates for cable Internet networks will go up. By a lot.<\/p>\n

So basically what it all means is this:<\/p>\n
