It Really is Who You Know When Looking for a Job

Communitech held a job fair the other night in Waterloo for tech companies with positions to fill. Currently in the tech triangle, (Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge), there are more than 1,000 high skilled high paying jobs held vacant, so companies have to go out and flog their wares as it were to get properly qualified candidates in the door.

Fibernetics is no different. The head of our HR department, Amanda Little, was in a booth telling the hundreds inĀ attendanceĀ all about the company, and why they should come on board. It’s a weird dance really. With these days of relatively high unemployment, you’d think it wouldn’t be too hard to find the right people, but it is.

And the reverse also holds true. There are a ton of qualified people out there looking, but for whatever reason, they missed hearing about the job fair maybe, or they are stuck in a job they don’t think they can leave, whatever, they just can’t seem to get their foot in the door.

Fibernetics co-founder and CMO, John Stix, was also there scoping out the talent, and when CTV flagged him down for an interview, he offered some very valuable advice:
