Worldline Announces Sponsorship for TriGator For Kids
Local Children are the Real “Superhero Kids”

CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO–(06/10/14)- TriGator for Kids is a triathlon designed for kids aged 3 to 14 held in Elmira, Ontario on Saturday, June 14th. Hugely successful, this event has helped raise nearly $200,000 for charity, with hundreds of local children having taken part over the year. In 2013 TriGATOR helped 1,400 kids be active through subsidies for YMCA memberships, along with providing funds for various swimming, soccer and baseball programs.

TriGatorWorldline,  the Superhero voice and data provider, has become a major sponsor of TriGator this year because it’s a local charity focused on health and well being. Does it scream “Superhero Kids” or what? The TriGator is a kids’ triathlon race with age appropriate Swim-Bike-Run distances for children and this is the fifth year for this event.

Proceeds are donated to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart®charity. Jumpstart® is based on the idea that  all kids should have the chance to run, skate, play, and grow. It’s a community-based program that helps kids aged 4-18 participate in organized sports and recreation such as hockey, dance, soccer and swimming, so they can develop important life skills, self esteem and confidence.  For more information check out Canadian Tire Jumpstart®.

John Stix – Worldline CMO and Co-Founder said, “We’re super excited to be one of the main sponsors this year, and our team is heading up to Elmira to volunteer and help the hundreds of local children do what they do – and that’s be Superhero kids.”

It’s TriGator Week at Worldline

Tri2Meet the real Superhero Kids!

TriGATOR for Kids is a triathlon designed for kids aged 3 to 14 held in Elmira, Ontario, (a small town just north of our head office in Cambridge), on the upcoming Father’s Day weekend.

Hugely successful, hundreds of local kids have taken part over the years and helped raise nearly $200,000 for charity. In 2013 TriGATOR helped 1,400 kids be active through subsidies for YMCA memberships, along with providing funds for various swimming, soccer, and baseball programs, just to name a few.

Worldline has become a major sponsor of TriGATOR this year because it’s a local charity focused on health and well being and, frankly, does it scream “Superhero Kids” or what?

The TriGator is a kids’ triathlon race with age appropriate Swim-Bike-Run distances for children between the ages of 3-14. 2014 is the fifth year for this event and participation will be limited.  As with past years, we expect the TriGator to sell out quickly.

Tri1The proceeds from the TriGator are donated to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart®. Jumpstart® is based on the idea that  all kids should have the chance to run, skate, play, and grow. It’s a community-based charitable program that helps kids aged 4-18 participate in organized sports and recreation such as hockey, dance, soccer and swimming, so they can develop important life skills, self esteem and confidence.  For more information check out Canadian Tire Jumpstart®.

We’re super excited to be one of the main sponsors this year, and our team is heading up to Elmira to volunteer and help the hundreds of local children do what they do – and that’s be Superhero kids.

Backpacks for Kids Pulled Pork Recipe

BackpackOn Tuesday we held a Pulled Pork lunch for everyone at Worldline – and it was a huge success as we raise hundreds of dollars for our in-house charity, “backpacks for kids” which will help get a bunch of children in school – which is awesome. What was also awesome was the Pulled Pork that was served, so after about a dozen requests, here’s the recipe.

“backpack for kids” Roasted & Pulled Pork Recipe

Makes enough to fill 6 to 8 sandwiches. This isn’t a single day recipe as you have to marinate the pork overnight.

Ingredients:

3-1/2 pounds pork shoulder
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup dried oregano
1/2 cup chili powder
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
4-1/2 tablespoons kosher salt

Directions:

Day 1: Pork Shoulder usually comes with a thick layer of skin. You have to cut this off. If it has already been removed, make sure you trim the remaining fat from the pork, leaving a ½-inch fat cap.

Combine the brown sugar, oregano, chili powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and salt in a bowl. Rub the entire roast with the mixture, and massage it into the meat. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Day 2: BBQ method: Heat your Q to high. When the grill is as hot as possible, place the roast in the center and sear the outside of the roast, but don’t burn it. (The sugar in the rub tends to make this likely.) Cook each side of the roast just long enough to grill it until well browned, moving the meat to a new spot each time you turn it. (10 to 15 minutes.)

PorkSmoker method: If you have a smoker this recipe just got a lot more yummy. Smoke the roast  for 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes using a stronger wood like hickory. Turn once to ensure giving it a nice even smoke rind.

Remove the roast and immediately place in a large Dutch oven or heavy pot. Cover the pot and place it in a pre-heated to 325-degree oven. The pork is done when you jab it with a fork and it easily pulls apart with a fork.

Should take about 3 hours in total.

Once it’s done, pull it out of the pot and “pull” the pork apart using two forks. It should be easy to do. If it’s not, it’s not quite done.

We served our pork two ways – traditional with a spicy vinegar sauce or mixed with barbecue sauce. The BBQ sauce was the No.1  choice by far, but wasn’t as good as the Spicy sauce method.

Spicy Sauce:

Once you have removed your pork from the pot, what’s left is all the fat that you’ve melted away, and the natural juices from the roast. Pour this mixture through a strainer and separate the oil from the fluid.  Pour that flavour fluid into a small pot and add white vinegar that measures about 1/3 the total volume and heat to a boil, and then turn it off.

Once cooled, pour it into a squeeze bottle and give your pork a squirt when you load it into a fresh bun.

Then enjoy.

The beautiful thing about Pulled Pork, besides it’s amazing flavour is it uses the least expensive cut of meat there is, the pork shoulder, or a pork picnic roast. You can feed a whole lot of folks for very little money, which in a fundraiser for charity like Backpacks for Kids is more important than anything.

Worldline’s Backpacks For Kids is Back!

BPFK11

Last June our co-founder and CMO, John Stix introduced the official Worldline charity, “backpacks for kids” and we’re doubling down on it again in 2014:

A Message from Worldline’s CMO

In the Dominican Republic every child may attend school, however there is a minimum requirement to be met. The family must supply a school uniform, books and supplies. Unfortunately, many families do not have the necessary resources resulting in their children being kept out of school meaning thousands of kids have their futures limited due to a lack of education.

“backpacks for kids” was started by a small group of caring individuals at Worldline because the Dominican Republic is close to their hearts. We operate a 70 seat call centre in Puerto Plata called the Fibernetics Contact Centre run by Kitchener, Ontario native Pete Cross. Because of Pete’s and our efforts up here, over 130 young children have realized their dream as they have been provided fully packed backpacks – and everything they need to go to school. You can check out last year’s slide show HERE.

This cause has been embraced both in the Dominican Republic, and at our headquarters in Cambridge, Ontario

Chalkboard

We continue to raise money within our company with a bunch of fundraisers held throughout the year, like this Tuesday’s Pulled Pork BBQ lunch with all proceeds going to the kids – (and as a bonus it will be yummy!)

Worldline wide, for the month of June we will be donating $5.00 for each new Bundle sale and $3.00 for every home phone sale directly to the charity, so the more Canadians we help by saving them hundreds on their telecom bills, we’ll be sending even more kids to school.

“backpacks for kids” is our own homegrown charity and in the few years of its existence the tangible difference it has made in the lives of these children has been remarkable.  Seeing the smiles on all those children and parents has inspired us to do even more.

Thanks to everyone on the Worldline team for their work and energy for helping build “backpacks for kids” into what it is today.

Cheers
John Stix – CMO Worldline

Yes You Can!

shelter

Do you know the No.1 reason why Canadians are sticking with telecom companies like Rogers and Bell, despite knowing they are getting gouged for their Internet and home phone?

Because they don’t think they can switch.

Honest. That’s No.1. The Big Three’s near monopoly is so complete that Canadians coast-to-coast believe they have no where else to turn when it comes to their voice and data. The think they just have to take it- and that’s why if you ask a typical Canadian “which company do you hate the most?”, they’ll most likely answer Bell, Rogers or Telus.

That’s why we’re introducing the Yes You Can! campaign to let as many fine folks as possible know that they do have another place to go, and one that can save them hundreds of dollars a year.

Here’s a quick case study. A Worldline customer in Cambridge, (which is also where our head office is located), was with Rogers for years and years. His monthly bill, which included Internet, home phone, cable TV and two mobile phones averaged more than $500/month. $6000 a year to Rogers? Yikes!

$60/month of that was from his home phone. Internet, because he was a big data guy and Rogers had his data capped at 60 GB/month, averaged about $100/month.

He found out about Worldline just this week after seeing one of our ads on a local bus. He called us up switched to our Unlimited Highspeed Internet and Home Phone Cable Bundle for $54.95/month. He now has unlimited data, (at a faster speed than he was getting with Rogers) a fully featured phone and free Canadian long distance. And just by switching to us, he’s saving more than $1200/year.

It’s kind of embarrassing really as this guy lives in Cambridge and hadn’t heard of us, the regions biggest voice and data service provider, but that’s the reality we face.

People have no idea they have options – like Worldline. So look for our new ads and make sure you help spread the word to your friends and family, because we’ve got to get the word out that they can switch. Tell them, “yes you can.”
